Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

HCS SB 797 -- ELECTIONS

SPONSOR: Bray (May)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Elections by a vote of 7 to 0.

This substitute removes the requirement that a petition for the
creation of a new political party contain the name of one nominee
from each Congressional district to serve as a presidential
elector. This information must be provided at the time of filing
the declaration of candidacy.

Election judges are required to be selected from lists provided
by the county committee of each major political party in counties
that do not have a board of election commissioners. If the list
is not provided or is inadequate, judges may be selected as
authorized by Section 115.081, RSMo.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2009, FY 2010, and
FY 2011.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill allows third parties to
have the same rules as the major political parties.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Bray.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
